We are back from our summer break and still feed you with information on innovative technologies all over the world, but also again with interesting updates of our own projects!

Yesterday, the first 3D printed bridge railings in China was officially inaugurated in the city of Nanjing. Using the 3D printers instead of conventional technologies, not only saved around 50% of the usual costs, but made it possible to complete the entire project within 15 days. While in the past engineers usually had stability concerns, the bridge railings did far better in stress tests than traditional cement.

But please read for yourself….

In the last couple of years we extensively reported about 3D printed in the field of medicine.

Now the innovative methods of medical technology were supplemented by a further dimension (time) and 4D printing was used treating the first patient.

The doctors used a printed implant which dissolves after a certain time. It thus fulfils the purpose of a temporary spacefiller and offers the body the chance of new tissue to settle through the implant.

Unfortunately, the report does not show which material or which printing method was used exactly.

Nevertheless, we are very curious about other fields of application for the 4D printing method.
